When I first started practicing yoga I thought it was all about making shapes. Having been a classical ballet dancer my entire life, recreating shapes came naturally to me. Took me a few years but I eventually learned it’s not about the shape you make but rather how you evolve and what you learn on that journey to contort yourself into a yoga pretzel. When the surface level of the practice comes so easily I think it takes longer to not only get but actually understand that message. If you find that your body struggles in the asana practice and you feel like you will never, ever touch your toes and that pisses you off… congratulations because you are getting there. In order to understand and appreciate the journey, I really think you need to be challenged by it first.
