Pet owners! I have a really important announcement. Please, if you read any of my posts, let it be this one! Yesterday I spent the day with my girl Sylvie at Purdue University Small Animal Hospital. It’s about a 2 hr ride from where we live (hence the stretching when we got home!) and we go up there to see her team of doctors regularly. Last fall, Sylvie had to have a life-saving surgery due to a build-up of stones in her bladder, kidneys, and ureters. Long story short, she is doing well now (yay!) but it has been a very long, expensive, and time consuming road. I want to shout this message from the rooftops so please spread the word! Cats and dogs *CANNOT* process the minerals in tap water the way that humans can. The calcium in the tap water builds up in their system, can create stones, and ultimately cause kidney disease and failure. Switching your pet to bottled water can help prevent this. Make sure the water you buy is not infused with more minerals; distilled or de-ionized water is an even better choice. I use a fountain I found on amazon.com, it’s easy to use, and both of my cats love it. I know bottled water sounds ridiculous, but I stock up on gallon jugs when they’re on sale. It’s really not that expensive and it can SAVE YOUR PET’S LIFE. Such a simple switch…please help spread the word!
